About the Oldham Hall Hope Fund
Boarding Scholarship by ACS Oldham Hall (OH)
The OH Hope Fund is set up with the aim of helping local Singaporean students, and is established in the same principle as the foundation of ACS Oldham Hall itself.
When Rev William F. Oldham founded ACS in 1886, it was a school by day and boarding place by night for students who needed education and lodging facilities.
Why OH Hope Fund?
To serve a niche market of need, where there are local youths who due to no fault of their own do not have a good structured environment to live and study in. The fragmenting of families and unfortunate events that these youths experience cause many of them to end up on the wrong side of the law, and they also become ideal targets for gangs.
A real case example would be a 15-year-old girl whose mother has passed away, and whose ill father is cared for in a nursing home, leaving her alone. The timely intervention of a kind Samaritan has allowed her to stay in Oldham Hall, providing support and pastoral care for this youth in a safe environment while she goes through a very challenging and vulnerable period of her life.
With the facilities and capacity available in OH, we hope to give back to society by providing lodging and pastoral care to such youths, helping them grow up to be responsible and mature adults who can contribute to the society.
